Joseph Rector

Physical Therapist

Hi, I’m Joseph, a physiotherapist and clinical exercise physiologist, born and raised right here in Victoria. I started out at Camosun College in the Exercise and Wellness program, where I was fortunate enough to serve as class Valedictorian, then went on to complete my Master’s in Physiotherapy at the University of Limerick in Ireland (and yes, I still miss the Irish pubs).

My approach to physio is all about creating space for people to feel seen, heard, and capable. I’m a big believer in combining education, movement, and hands-on care to help people reconnect with what their bodies can do — not just to feel better, but to move forward with more confidence and ease.

I’ve spent time learning from leaders in chronic pain research, including Dr. Kieran O’Sullivan, and have co-authored work on exercise and osteoarthritis. Staying connected to the latest research helps me offer care that’s both grounded and adaptable — but at the end of the day, it’s the person in front of me who matters most.

At South Island Physio, I love being part of a team that’s curious, collaborative, and deeply committed to helping people turn setbacks into breakthroughs. Whether you’re dealing with a long-standing issue or something brand new, I’m here to walk alongside you as we figure it out together.
