about south island physiotherapy

Helping Victoria Move Better, Recover Faster, and Stay Active

At South Island Physiotherapy, our mission is simple: help people get back to doing the things they love.

Whether that means returning to sport, prehabilitating an injury before surgery, recovering after surgery, managing chronic pain, or simply moving through daily life without discomfort, our team is dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based care in a supportive environment.

Our Victoria physiotherapy center brings together physiotherapy, registered massage therapy, kinesiology, chiropractic care, and pelvic health under one roof – one integrated team, working toward one goal: durable results that last well beyond your last appointment.

Our Story

South Island Physiotherapy was founded by three clinicians – Jason Nenzel, Colin Beattie, and Alec Myring – who shared a clear vision for what a physiotherapy clinic could be.

After years working across different clinical settings, they saw a consistent gap: patients were receiving treatment, but not always the education, guidance, and collaborative support needed for lasting recovery. They set out to build something different – a clinic where practitioners work together, where patients understand their own recovery, and where the standard of care is consistently evidence-based.

That vision has grown into a multidisciplinary clinic serving Greater Victoria with a team that holds every patient outcome to a high clinical standard.

Why we built south island physiotherapy

Meet the Founders

Alec Myring

PT, MPT

Originally from Canada’s west coast, Alec grew up surrounded by the outdoor lifestyle that continues to shape both his personal life and his work as a physiotherapist. He completed his undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics at UBC in 2007 before earning his Master of Physical Therapy from UBC in 2011, and has spent his entire career serving the Greater Victoria community since graduating.

Victoria’s active, outdoor-oriented culture makes it a place where movement is central to everyday life – and it’s a community Alec is deeply at home in. He believes physiotherapy is about more than recovering from injury. It’s about helping people understand their bodies, build confidence in how they move, and develop the resilience to stay active for the long term. Credentialed in IMS/dry needling and with a strong background in strength and conditioning, his goal is to support people in moving with greater ease and freedom so they can keep doing what makes living on Vancouver Island so special.

Colin Beattie

PT, MPT

Colin grew up in Saint John, New Brunswick and completed his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia before earning his Master of Physical Therapy from UBC. After finishing his studies, he moved to Victoria to build a life and family in a community that reminded him of home – a place defined by connection, access to the outdoors, and a pace of life that allows people to prioritize health and time with family.

With over 15 years of clinical experience, Colin’s work is rooted in a simple belief: people should be able to move through life with confidence. His approach is shaped by his own journey navigating persistent injury, which gives him a grounded, empathetic perspective on what recovery actually takes. His goal – for every patient – is to help them rediscover thoughtless, careless, fearless movement, and the freedom to return to the activities and lifestyle that bring them joy.

Jason Nenzel

PT, MSc

Jason was born and raised on Vancouver Island and has always felt a strong connection to the people and lifestyle of the West Coast. He completed his undergraduate degree at Vancouver Island University, graduating as Valedictorian, before moving to Edmonton to pursue his Master of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta. During his studies, Jason was elected President of the Rehabilitation Medicine Student Association, representing the student body and working closely with faculty to support the development of future rehabilitation professionals.

Jason has been practicing as a Physiotherapist in Victoria for eight years. His approach centres on helping people overcome injury, pain, and physical limitation so they can return to the activities that matter most to them – whether that means getting back to sport, work, or everyday life without restriction. In addition to his clinical work, Jason currently serves as a Director on the Board of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, contributing to the future of the profession across Canada.

In the Community

At South Island Physiotherapy, our connection to the community is grounded in the people and activities that make up life on Vancouver Island. We’ve had the opportunity to support athletes and active individuals across a range of disciplines. This includes facilitating a strength program for runners preparing for the Finlayson Arm Trail Race with Coastline Endurance, working with golfers pursuing the transition from amateur to professional play, and helping basketball athletes successfully return to sport following injury.

We are always open to opportunities to support local events, partner with teams and organizations, and contribute to initiatives that promote movement, health, and performance.

Our goal is to be more than a clinic.

We aim to be a trusted part of the community, helping people move better, stay active, and continue doing what they love.
