A workplace injury affects more than your body. It affects your livelihood, your routine, and your confidence in doing the job you know how to do. At South Island Physiotherapy, we provide WorkSafeBC physiotherapy patients with hands-on occupational injury rehab from CPTBC-registered clinicians who understand physical work and what a safe return to it actually looks like. We are a registered WorkSafeBC health care provider and bill WorkSafeBC directly for approved treatments. You don’t pay out-of-pocket for covered services. Our goal is the same as yours: a full recovery that gets you back to work.
The Clinical Standards Behind Our Care

CPTBC-Registered Clinicians Experienced in Occupational Injury
Every physiotherapist at South Island Physiotherapy holds active CPTBC registration. Our clinicians are experienced in the assessment and treatment of occupational injuries, including musculoskeletal strains, overuse injuries, crush and impact injuries, back and neck injuries sustained in workplace incidents, and the complex presentations that arise from physically demanding work environments. We understand the functional demands of trades, healthcare, warehousing, and other physically intensive roles.
5-Star Google Rating from 250+ Victoria Patients
Our Google rating reflects real patient experiences across all disciplines and injury types we treat. Workplace injury patients describe a clinical environment that took their injury seriously, set realistic recovery expectations, and provided the documentation and communication with WorkSafeBC that their claim required.

Locally Owned and Operated in Victoria BC
South Island Physiotherapy was founded and is operated by practising clinicians. Co-owners Jason Nenzel, Colin Beattie, and Alec Myring see patients regularly and set the standard of care within the clinic from the inside. When you are navigating a WorkSafeBC claim and managing the pressure of time off work, you are working with a team that understands what is at stake for you.
Registered WorkSafeBC Health Care Provider with Direct Billing
South Island Physiotherapy is a registered WorkSafeBC health care provider. We bill WorkSafeBC directly for approved treatments, so eligible patients do not pay out of pocket at the time of their appointment. We handle the administrative requirements of your claim so you can focus on what matters: your recovery.
Return-to-Work Planning Built Into Every Program
WorkSafeBC rehabilitation is goal-directed: the endpoint is a return to your pre-injury work duties, modified duties, or a graduated return plan depending on the nature of your injury. Our physiotherapists set clear functional goals at your initial assessment and build your treatment plan around the specific physical demands of your occupation. Our kinesiology team provides active rehabilitation and functional capacity work that bridges the gap between acute injury management and the demands of your job.
Our WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy Services in Victoria BC
Initial Workplace Injury Assessment and Claim Registration
Your first WorkSafeBC appointment is a comprehensive clinical assessment. Your physiotherapist will take a detailed history of the workplace incident, assess the full scope of your injuries, identify any contributing factors related to your work environment or duties, and develop a treatment plan with explicit return-to-work goals. Your claim number is registered at this appointment, and WorkSafeBC billing begins from your first visit. We provide all required documentation to WorkSafeBC on your behalf.
Musculoskeletal Injury Rehabilitation
Strains, sprains, and musculoskeletal injuries are the most common WorkSafeBC claims in BC. Whether your injury occurred in a single incident or developed over time from the demands of your job, our physiotherapists assess the structures involved and apply targeted treatment, including manual therapy, soft-tissue techniques, and a progressive rehab program designed to help you return to work.
Back and Spinal Injury Rehabilitation
Back injuries are among the most common and costly workplace injuries in BC. Lifting incidents, awkward postures, slips and falls, and the wear and tear of physically demanding work all contribute to a high number of back claims. Our physiotherapists provide thorough spinal assessment and evidence-based rehabilitation, including spinal manipulation and joint mobilization where appropriate, alongside a progressive loading program that rebuilds the spinal capacity required to return to full work duties safely.
Soft Tissue and Overuse Injury Treatment
Repetitive strain injuries, tendinopathies, and overuse conditions account for a significant share of WorkSafeBC claims, particularly among healthcare workers, tradespeople, and workers in repetitive assembly or production roles. Our clinicians apply active release technique, targeted manual therapy, and practical load management to treat the injury and reduce the risk of it coming back when you return to work.
Active Rehabilitation and Functional Capacity Restoration
Returning to work after a workplace injury requires more than pain resolution. It requires the strength, endurance, movement capacity, and confidence to perform the physical demands of your job reliably and without risk of re-injury. Our kinesiology team provides active rehabilitation programming under WorkSafeBC for eligible patients, working alongside your physiotherapist to build the functional capacity required for your specific job demands. Strength and conditioning programs are integrated into the later stages of your rehabilitation plan where appropriate.
Graduated Return-to-Work Program Support
WorkSafeBC often facilitates a graduated return-to-work plan in which a worker returns to modified duties initially and progressively increases their workload as their recovery allows. Our physiotherapists work within this framework, providing functional goal setting, progress documentation, communication with WorkSafeBC case managers, and progressive exercise programs that are directly aligned with the physical demands of each stage of your return plan.
Post-Surgical Rehabilitation Under WorkSafeBC
Some workplace injuries need surgery before rehab can start. Where WorkSafeBC has approved surgery and follow-up physiotherapy, our team manages your recovery from early mobility and healing through to the physical capacity needed to return to work. We coordinate with your surgical team and keep WorkSafeBC updated throughout the process.
Why Victoria Workers Choose South Island Physiotherapy

We Understand the Physical Demands of Your Work
Good workplace injury rehab starts with understanding what your job actually requires. Our physiotherapists assess not only your injury but the physical demands of your occupation, the environment you work in, and the specific movements and loads your role involves. Your return-to-work plan is built around those realities, not a generic recovery threshold.
Clear Communication With WorkSafeBC and Your Employer
WorkSafeBC claims require regular communication between you, your employer, your case manager, and your treating physiotherapist. Our team handles the reporting side of your claim, submits documentation to WorkSafeBC on time, and keeps you in the loop on what we are sending and why.
No Out-of-Pocket Cost for Approved WorkSafeBC Treatments
Approved physiotherapy and rehabilitation services under WorkSafeBC are billed directly to WorkSafeBC. You do not pay at the time of your appointment for covered services. We confirm your claim status when you book and ensure all billing is set up correctly before your first visit.
Focused on What You Are Returning To
We ask athletes about their goals, not just their symptoms. Knowing whether you are preparing for a marathon, a rugby season, or simply want to get back to hiking the trails around Victoria shapes how we plan your recovery. Getting you back to your best self means understanding what that looks like for you specifically.
Starting WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy at South Island Physiotherapy
Report Your Injury and Register Your WorkSafeBC Claim
Before booking your physiotherapy appointment, you must report your workplace injury to your employer and register a claim with WorkSafeBC. You can start a claim online at worksafebc.com or by calling WorkSafeBC at 1-888-967-5377. Once your claim number is assigned, contact us at (778) 433-4900 or book online. Let us know at the time of booking that your appointment is related to a WorkSafeBC claim.
Comprehensive Workplace Injury Assessment
Your first appointment is a full clinical assessment. Your physiotherapist will ask how the injury happened, what symptoms you’ve had since, and what your job physically requires of you. They will assess the full scope of your injuries, set clear return-to-work goals, and put together a treatment plan around those goals. All required documentation is submitted to WorkSafeBC after the appointment.
Active Treatment and Progressive Rehabilitation
Your treatment plan will combine hands-on physiotherapy with a progressive rehabilitation program focused on restoring the specific functional capacity your job requires. Where appropriate, your plan will also include referral within the clinic to kinesiology for active rehabilitation programming. WorkSafeBC billing is handled directly by our team throughout your treatment.
Progress Reporting and WorkSafeBC Communication
WorkSafeBC requires regular progress reports from your treating physiotherapist. Our team prepares and submits all required documentation on your behalf. If your recovery requires an extension of approved treatment or a modification to your graduated return-to-work plan, we will initiate that communication directly with WorkSafeBC and keep you informed of the status of your claim.
Graduated Return to Work and Discharge
As your functional capacity is restored, we work with you and WorkSafeBC to develop or refine your graduated return-to-work plan. Discharge from physiotherapy is planned around your achieving the functional goals set at the outset, not a fixed number of appointments. We document your functional status clearly at discharge and provide WorkSafeBC with the final reporting required to close your physiotherapy claim.

FAQs: WorkSafeBC Physiotherapy in Victoria BC

Do I need to pay for WorkSafeBC physiotherapy?
No. Approved physiotherapy treatment under WorkSafeBC is billed directly to WorkSafeBC by South Island Physiotherapy. You do not pay out-of-pocket at the time of your appointment for covered services. If any aspect of your treatment falls outside your WorkSafeBC coverage, we will inform you clearly before proceeding.
What do I need before I can book a WorkSafeBC physiotherapy appointment?
You need to have reported your injury to your employer and registered a claim with WorkSafeBC before booking your first physiotherapy appointment. WorkSafeBC will assign you a claim number, which you will need to provide at the time of booking. If you are unsure whether your claim has been registered, contact WorkSafeBC directly at 1-888-967-5377 or at worksafebc.com before calling us.
What types of workplace injuries does WorkSafeBC physiotherapy cover?
WorkSafeBC covers physiotherapy for a broad range of occupational injuries, including acute musculoskeletal injuries from lifting, falls, or impact incidents; repetitive strain and overuse conditions; back and spinal injuries; shoulder and upper limb injuries; and post-surgical rehabilitation for injuries requiring surgery. The specific scope of your approved treatment will depend on your assessed injuries and WorkSafeBC’s determination of necessary and appropriate care for your claim.
How quickly should I start physiotherapy after a workplace injury?
As soon as your claim is registered, you can attend safely. Early physiotherapy following a workplace injury is associated with better recovery outcomes and a faster return to work. Once you have your claim number, contact us promptly. We will book you in as quickly as possible and begin your assessment and treatment without delay.
Does WorkSafeBC also cover kinesiology and active rehabilitation?
WorkSafeBC covers a range of allied health services for eligible claimants, including kinesiology and active rehabilitation programming. Because South Island Physiotherapy provides kinesiology and physiotherapy under one roof, your full WorkSafeBC rehabilitation program can be coordinated within a single clinic. Our physiotherapy and kinesiology teams communicate directly to ensure your active rehabilitation is aligned with your overall recovery plan.
What is a graduated return-to-work plan and how does physiotherapy support it?
A graduated return-to-work plan is a structured program in which an injured worker returns to work at a reduced or modified capacity and gradually increases their hours and duties as they recover. WorkSafeBC uses these plans to support recovery while keeping workers connected to their workplace. Our physiotherapists set clear goals at each stage, document your progress, and communicate with your WorkSafeBC case manager as you move through the plan. If you can’t return to your original duties right away, we work with WorkSafeBC to identify what modified duties make sense at each stage of your recovery.
Can I receive both WorkSafeBC and ICBC physiotherapy if I was injured at work and in a vehicle accident?
Yes, in cases where a workplace injury and a motor vehicle accident are separate events, it is possible to hold both a WorkSafeBC and an ICBC claim concurrently. South Island Physiotherapy provides both ICBC physiotherapy and WorkSafeBC physiotherapy, and our team can help you navigate the requirements of managing both claims. Contact us to discuss your specific situation and we will help you clarify the appropriate approach.
